Over the past 3 years, since mild but back-to-back covid infections, our daughter Kara has suffered tremendously with her health. From her parents’ perspective, it has felt like the cruelest game of whack-a-mole in which we’ve battled one set of symptoms with every resource available, only to have worse symptoms present when the prior have quieted. We have exhausted allopathic options, and in fact, most of her test results are ‘normal’. We have also used the variety of holistic and natural options our family has used successfully in other health challenges over the last 15 years. We need something much more intensive now that she is having numerous fainting/seizure episodes every day and has lost all feeling in her legs and the ability to walk.
So, tomorrow, we are temporarily relocating to Arkansas where Kara will begin care at a neurological rehabilitation center. Initially, we have been told to expect a duration of 14 weeks. As we pack, plan, and prepare to divide our family of 6 into 3 households (Kayla will be returning to Tennessee for school this week), 14 weeks feel like an eternity, but I realize it’s nothing compared to 3 years of this absolute hell.
Kevin and I will be taking turns so one of us will be with Kara at all times. We will each be doing all our usual routine when home. Additionally, her therapies will be Mondays-Thursdays 9-5, and we will still be working and teaching remotely as there’s a good bit of down time for her to rest and our evenings will be spent at the hotel.
We covet your prayers for relief and 100% remission for her.
We anticipate the costs and expenses of Kara’s time at Spero to be paid entirely out-of pocket with little to no insurance assistance, and may exceed $70,000. If you would like to contribute to her care, here is our Venmo with last 4 digits of cell 4973. We are most grateful for your support. <3
