Sugar consumption in the United States is OUT. OF. CONTROL. Sugar is the most commonly approved addiction in American, and it’s one of the most deadly and unaddressed. It’s believed that sugar is more addictive than heroin, and if you’ve ever actually done a sugar detox, I guarantee you don’t doubt that statement a bit. As heart disease, diabetes, autoimmune conditions, cancer, and obesity continue to rage, we now know they are all risk factors for COVID complications. Sugar consumption doesn’t help a single one of these difficult health challenges. It’s past time to take control of our sweets.
I'll be totally honest, I've led several sugar detoxes in the past and my will-power is completely zapped right now. I do NOT want to hit the holidays (or winter) as weak in will as I am right now. Want to join in on the fun?
If you are struggling with any of these signs, a Sugar Detox is in order:
Candida
Re-occuring infections
Auto-immune issues
Cancer
Foggy brain
Chronic pain
Don't feel like yourself
Weight management challenges
ADD/ADHD
Mood outbursts
Still not sure if you really NEED a sugar detox? We aim to keep our sugar level around 25 grams a day during the detox. Keep track of your eating the next few days, and see where you’re at. Just so you know:
Cereal for breakfast? Check the sugar content and portion size. 3/4 cup is usually about 9 grams.
Chobani Fruit on Bottom Yogurt has about 19 grams.
A single 12 oz can of Coke has 39 grams.
A sweet potato has 6 grams.
A regular size Snickers bar is 27 grams.
A McDonald’s Big Mac has 9 grams and a ChickfilA cookie has 30 grams.
1 ketchup packet = 2 grams
A 5 oz glass of red wine pushes 2 grams, and a 2-3 oz dessert wine comes at a cost of 7 grams.
Eeeekkkkkk!
Have kids who need to do a sugar detox? I’m guessing it’s a yes.
